Engine box

Now you can see the whole arrangement around the engine box
I started to make hinges on ruder case, first i glued on the styrodur,
around the plastic pipe i laminated a strip of fibre ( 7 cm wide), i laid on more fibres that will fix  the ring on plastic pipe to the rudder case,

and here is the video

Today i assembled the front mast, it consists out of two pols, they have A shape, and the crab claw will hang in between. I did a model out of styrodur (i had to get the angel)for a bracket that will be placed on the front cabin.

Bracket
Today on 22th of April i made hinges for rudders, and yesterday i did spars for crab claw sail. They are 8 m long and glued from two pices of wood 40 X 30 mm, and 4 m long.
Again i used styrodur as a model.

 I got a new helper

Many things had happened from my last report, I finished the rudders except painting, on Thursday I finished one engine pod, the videos are below. I also painted the laminated floor of the cabin pod, and on Sunday 8th of April finished the last pole - mast ( A mast). Lamination of one more box is waiting on me, that means one more day.

Sanding the edges of the box,
wetting out fibers on the table, putting them on the styrodur,

additional wetting out fibers, the tricky part was turning of the box but we laid the plastic and a strap and some clamps and we did it with no problem unfortunately i have no pictures of that operation.

thanks to the epoxy, we had enough time, the whole process of lamination lasted for about 5 hours by the environmental temperature of about 180C.
In the end we put everything under pressure.

On Monday the 6th of April I went to the guy who is making  CNC machines. I used a NACA 0010 digits to make the profile.

Otherwise i laminated the inside edges of the cabins, painted the pillar for steering, and other small thing that you can see on the picture, I also, already glued the styrodur rudders together, so they are ready for lamination (length of 2,2 m). Now I will have to make hinges on hulls and on the rudder case. On both sides the hinges will be out of fiber.
Inside of the cabins in the cabin pod.

The covers for the cabin are also done.
Rudders ready for painting.
Rudders wit cases.

In january and beginning of february there was not much going on regarding to building. Temperatures in january were below zero, also during the day. It was time for winter activities like sledding. But it was also time for doing some planing behind computer. I looked  for videos on youtube about construction of self made wind vane. Should it be a servopedulum, ore a trim tab. I thinke i decided for servo pendulum. A man is doing a CNC machines for carpenters and to try it out he will make my rudders out of styrodur so i am waiting for that. On my boat i won't have a GPS. I won't trust like i dumy blindeles the technology, what when satellites "fell from the sky", and uncle Sam doesn't wont to "give the signal" any more. The political situation wright now isn't rosy, but any way i don't wanne by one of dose who are driving to work every day the same road  and they blindly follow the navigation (we say arround the ass into the pocket).  So i am buying a sextant, not new one, on ebay there are some used ones and in good condition, but i am waiting for the "right price". I red books about celestial navigation and watch videos, for the moment just sextant is missing for practising the navigation. I will also try to keep plastic out of my boat as much as possible. In the kitchen i will use glass and SS instead. Also for storing water i am not gone use bottled water.

Nothing done outside, he survived the snow.

I painted the well.
the third coat today, i hanged the will on a rope so i could painted all at once, i will do one more coat.

Aut of astrological calendar the steering wheel is slowly emerging. Today i cuted the central peces what took me quite some time. than i roughly cut of the excess wood.

After that i glued all the pieces on booth sides,

brought it home and gave it into the warm room to let the epoxy harden.

Already looks better.

Voilà, e finito

Lately the temperatures dropped to around zero and in the night they are well below zero. This are no stimulating conditions, to walk around like an icicle. But today it really wormed up to eight degrees and sun was shining, so i gathered the courage and went working. But in the meantime i wasn't sleeping. I met a man who is building CNC machines for cabinetmakers, and in january he will finish one, and than he will make a try with machine, he will cut out a ruder from styrodur for me. I will have to glue pieces together and than laminate.
Today i was working on steering wheel and a pillar for the wheel. In my previous post i did not show the middle deck pod that comes between the boxes, the whole is made for steering arrangement

What looks like an astrological calendar, will in fact become a steering wheel.

We also turned the central cabine.

When the temperatures will allow, than I will have to laminate the edges.

Haka caught in ice.

The weather in september was very favorable for outside works. The first half of september the temperatures were well above 250C, reaching 30. I was painting the parts like beams with Topcoat. Unfortunately i gave to small amount of hardener, and i had to scrape everything down, and wash with acetone. I lost more than a week time, but now the three of four beams are painted.

Benches made from Styrodur and fibers, here on the picture are not painted yet,

and now painted.
The story about boxes is complicated, but in a short, i made them to long. I took measurements when the beams where not on the place like below. I subtracted from the length between cabins the width of the both beams, but i did not think that there is a gap between cabin and beam of about 1,5 cm.
So I had to cut a little bit of a box,
and than make the side out of ply.

Beams painted-all dressed in white. For the painting i use Top coat, and for the better glos i will paint with one coat marine enamel.

Floor of the pantry cabin painted in white also with Top coat..

The pictures below were taken on 25th of october.
